Practical Info:

Venue

The conference will take place in the building of the Faculty of Social Studies at
Českobratrská 16, Ostrava.
The University of Ostrava is a dynamic university consisting of six faculties. Encompassing a wide range of scientific fields from medicine and natural sciences to humanities and fine arts, it represents a reputable research and educational institution, which plays an essential role for the region. Being only thirty-two years old, the university keeps growing and expanding its reach locally as well as internationally. The faculties are spread throughout the historical city center, and the recently-opened City Campus has become Ostrava’s newest health and cultural center as well as an integral part of the city’s social life. Ostrava is the third largest city in the Czech Republic, situated in the heart of the Moravian-Silesian region. Located close to the Slovak and Polish borders, it is just a few hours by train, bus or car from Prague, Krakow, Žilina and Vienna. Ostrava is a developing and vibrant city with rich industrial heritage and also lots of green spaces, such as public parks and walking and cycling paths along the Ostravice river.

Travelling to Ostrava

By train
Ostrava is easily accessible by train. You can check your train connection and purchase your train ticket online via the following websites: České dráhy (state-run railway operator), Regiojet and Leo Express. International trains most often stop at the main train station in Ostrava; the Czech word for “main train station” is Hlavní nádraží, which is often abbreviated as hl.n. Your train ticket to Ostrava should thus state “Ostrava MS” or “Ostrava hl.n.” (there are more stations in Ostrava).

By bus
Travelling by bus is in some cases cheaper and faster than by train. You can check your bus connection and purchase tickets online via the following websites: IDOS, Regiojet or Flixbus (all available in English).

By plane
From the Prague airport
From the Prague airport you can take a bus to the Prague main train station (Praha hlavní nádraží). There are two options:
▪ The Airport Express bus (AE Bus) takes you directly to the Prague main train station. You can buy the ticket at the DPP sales point at the airport by card or from the bus driver in cash.
▪ If you intend to stay in Prague before leaving for Ostrava, bus 119 will take you to the
nearest metro station and from there you can get just about anywhere in Prague.
From Prague main train station take a train to Ostrava Hlavní nádraží (Ostrava main train station).

From the Vienna Airport
From the Vienna airport you can take a train to the Vienna main train station and then change for a train to Ostrava Hlavní nádraží (Ostrava main train station). Alternatively, there is a direct bus connection from the Vienna airport to the Ostrava main bus station with Flixbus.

From the Katowice Airport
From the Katowice airport you can take a shuttle or a taxi/Uber to the Katowice train station. The bus from the airport only takes cash in PLN. If you want to pay by card you have to buy a ticket at a ticket machine. Then you can take a train to Ostrava Hlavní nádraží (Ostrava main train station), which takes approximately 2 hours. You can book a ticket at www.cd.cz/en/. Another option is to take the bus to Ostrava from Katowice-Sadowa with Flixbus or check regiojet.com.

From the Krakow Airport
You can take a direct bus with Flixbus from the airport to Ostrava main bus station. The ride takes approximately 3 hours. Another option is to take a train from the airport to the main train station and from there a bus (Flixbus or Regiojet) to Ostrava.

Transportation in Ostrava
Once you arrive in Ostrava, you can make use of the public transport system to get to the conference venue or your hotel. There are trolleybuses with regular departures just outside the Main train station. To get to the conference venue, you can board trolleybuses number 102 or 108 (located right outside the train station) and get off at the Husův sad stop (the ride takes about 10, or 22 minutes). To get to the conference venue from the main bus station, you can board a direct bus number 99. You can find detailed timetables at idos.cz/en. You must purchase a ticket once you get on. The easiest way to buy a ticket is to pay with your contactless bank card on board. Paper tickets are not used anymore. Another, pricier, option to reach the city center is to take either a taxi or an Uber/Bolt.
